fat tuesday

In the spirit of not feeling left out of the celebration going on in Louisiana, venues all over the DC metro area are throwing Mardi Gras parties this week. Here’s a look at some of the events going on tomorrow - Fat Tuesday - that will be tons-o-fun without costing tons-o-cash. And remember - {budget}fab* ladies are classy ladies, so no doing crazy things for the coveted purple, gold and green beads. I’ve found a nice smile and a “pretty please” works just fine (wink, wink)
Annual Clarendon Mardi Gras Parade - 8pm - until; FREE
The parade is a family-friendly event, with floats from local merchants, live music and beads (of course!). The parade party continues for mature folks at Clarendon’s many bars once the floats pass by. The parade begins at the intersection of Veitch Street and Wilson Boulevard (near the Court House Metro stop) and heads up Wilson to the Clarendon Metro station. Click here for more details…
Mardi Gras on U Street - 6:30pm - until; $10 in advance/$15 at the door
This event is being held at Bohemian Caverns and is hosted by the Louisiana Network - a non-profit group for transplanted Louisianians. DJ Wodierock will be spinning New Orleans tunes while Louisiana natives show us how it’s done with beads, masks, music and second-line dancing. Click here for more details…
Bourbon Street Bash - 4pm - 3am; $5 early, more later
Celebrate Mardi Gras at Rumors (1900 M St. NW Washington, DC) with beads, masks, live-music and a cajun chicken wing eating contest. Rumors will be offering really low prices on drinks and specials on “authentic” gumbo dishes. Click here for more details…
