fab* spot: lunar massage

Pressing deadlines, a spiraling economy, and annoying co-workers are all enough to make you lose your sanity. It’s hard enough being young and just trying to make it. But fear not friends, The Washingtonian hipped me to a new massage spot that’s geared specifically towards us. Lunar Massage is an “on-the-go” massage salon that perfectly suites the young professional with a busy lifestyle. The owner, Joanna Robinson, looked into franchising other massage chains but decided on building her own to capture a different demographic in Washington - those who aren’t spa regulars.

The studio features seven on-call therapists who are licensed practitioners in therapies ranging from medical massage to shiatsu. The prices…well, they’re certainly {budget}fab*, ranging from $26 (for 20 minutes) to $108 (for 90 minutes). You can even take a 30 minutes nap for $15 or get a “crackberry massage.”

These twentysomethings are highly educated, ambitious, and idealistic. We are on Facebook, Twitter, and we are the opinionated, hardworking people that make this city run. We make decisions our bosses take credit for, we write speeches other people give, and we make decisions on legislation that other people vote on. We sit hunched over our laptops for hours and don’t get enough sleep. We get drunk on Thursdays (and a lot of other days of the week), we live in group houses, and after being in front of our computers all day we sit and watch our TV’s…with our laptops on our laps. We blog, we Tweet, we update our statuses, we never get enough sleep, and we’re young enough to be resilient to the tremendous stress and strain and too young to care much about the long term consequences.

Surprisingly, there are not many services targeted at this cohort of people (bars don’t count). I wanted to create a space for people to come and be renewed in as little as 20 minutes - during the lunch hour, in the afternoon before a long evening of more work, or between work and going to happy hour or dinner. I spent years stuck in offices downtown wishing there was a place to come for a break and relief from the draining environment. That place is now available and affordable at Lunar Massage.

With lines like that…what’s not to love about this place! Lunar offers a luxury service and experience at a {budget}fab* price and I’m personally loving every minute of it. Lunar is even set to offer monthly Happy Hours. This place definitely sounds like a winner, so what are you waiting for?!
