dc bites: eatonville restaurant review

The owner of one of DC’s most popular restaurants, Busboys & Poets, has opened a new eatery - Eatonville. And I had the pleasure of dining there with friends this past weekend.
As a HUGE fan of Busboys & Poets I was feeling a little anxiety about trying Eatonville for the first time. Excited that the owner of such a magnificent place was giving us another dining destination, but nervous that the new spot may not be able to bring something new that was as good as the Busboys concept. Well, lucky for us, Eatonville is delightful!
First off, the space is phenomenal. The large murals that pay homage to author Zora Neale Hurston and Langston Hughes are magnificent. The space is two levels with a small outdoor patio, so there’s plenty of seating. One of my favorite details - beverages are served in mason jars. LOVED that!

Now, on to the food… We started with the fried green tomatoes. The dish included arugula and goat cheese. Delish! For the main course we all had the crab burger. Honestly, one of the best crab burgers I’ve ever had. If you plan to go it’s a must try. We finished our meal off with bread pudding. Typically not a bread pudding fan, I must say this was quite good.
Last, but certainly not least, on to the {budget}}fab*-ness of it all. Prices range from appetizers $6 - $9, salads $6 - $8, entrees $8 - $16, sides $5. Not bad for a DC restaurant. If you plan on heading out to eat, think about how much you’d like to spend before you get to the restaurant. That way there won’t be any surprises when the check comes.
Have you been? What’d you think?

I went there this evening. I enjoyed all the appetizers( hushpuppies, fried green tomatoes, and cheese tart). My main course, shrimp and craw fish etoufee, was okay. I’ve eaten better. The bread pudding dessert was delicious. And the services was AWESOME. Our waiter was attentive and personable. Definitely recommend it!
