high cost events and ways to save part 1: weddings

My sister is the inspiration for this post.  She is getting married September 26, 2009  and as the Maid of Honor I have an insider’s view on how much this wedding is going to cost her.  Can we say “OUCH!?”

Most would argue that you only get married once (well, in some cases), it’s a special occasion, you should go all out etc., etc., and I can’t say that I disagree with that school of thought.  However, for those of us that are a bit more thrifty or perhaps a little less traditional, I found a few ways to save on that special day at  a website called 101 Ways to Save Money.  Take a look at this post for yourself and tell me what you think.

The #1 way  to save on a wedding is to…you guessed it, Elope!  Just imagining the tears streaming from my mother’s eyes after hearing that I eloped is enough to make me abandon this option altogether.  Then again, the average wedding does cost around $27,000.   What do you think?  Take our poll below!
