what to wear?

Determining what to wear to a wedding can be stressful and confusing if you have no idea where to start. With help from About, here are some helpful pointers as well as a few {budget}fab* suggestions.
You can tell a lot about a wedding from the invitation: Does the invitation look fun with bright colors or informal language? Or is it more serious with raised or engraved lettering and formal language? The time of the wedding can also provide you with some clues about what to wear. For early weddings, before 5 or 6pm, opt for a cute, flowy dress like the Justine Chiffon Dress (1) from Delia’s for $49.50 or a skirt and shirt with heels. For evening weddings, go for a nice cocktail dress like the Pleated Daisy Cocktail Dress (2) from Forever 21 for $29.80 or a dressy suit. Black is always a safe option, since most women have a LBD in their closet. Check out the Ruffled Wrap Dress (3) for $27.80 or the Lavish Cocktail Party Dress (4) for $24.80, both from Forever 21. Steer clear of dresses that are too sexy or scandalous to avoid looking like you’re about to hit the club. For a black tie wedding, wear a formal dress that’s either tea length or to the floor.
Location is another key for deciding what to wear. For outdoor weddings, sundresses are ideal. They’re easy and cute. Try a cute floral sundress like the Cross-Front Ruffle Dress (5) from Old Navy for $29.50. For church weddings, a dress will also work, but remember not to be too scandalous, try the Belted Rosette Dress (6) from Spiegel for $49. For weddings that are in a country club, go for a more tailored look with a structured dress like the Bonnie Trench Dress (7) from Forever 21 for $22.80.
Avoid wearing white, since the bride wears white and it is her day. You can wear a printed dress with a white background but try to avoid white altogether. Avoid black at a daytime wedding, save the black for evening. Avoid anything too sexy or scandalous, it’s a wedding not the club. Avoid showing lots of skin at a religious wedding, bring a wrap for you arms or avoid strapless looks altogether.
