fall fashion color report

As you walk around malls and visit your favorite shopping sites I’m sure you’ve noticed all the summer clearance sales going on now. While clearance sales are truly {budget}fab*, we’re seeing so many because our favorite retailers are making room for their fall inventory. Color industry experts, Pantone, released their fall fashion report earlier this year, so now that fall is closer and retailers are getting their stores ready, here’s a look at what they had to say about what we will be seeing in the coming months…
- This fall we will see a diverse color palette made up of lots of subtle contrasts. Designers have incorporated a broad range of colors and they’ve suggested pairing them in unique ways.
The colors are…
- American Beauty - a patriotic, true red. A natural choice in uncertain times, the color promotes the need for cohesiveness.
- Purple Heart - purple hue that has a sense of “refinement and sensuality”. Looks great when paired with American Beauty.
- Honey Yellow - 2009’s color of the year is carried through the fall and winter with this more subdued yellow with a golden tone.
- Iron - not quite grey, not quite black, this interesting neutral will serve as the coming season’s “new black”.
- Creme Brulee - a beige with hints of grey
- Nomad - another great neutral, this color “bridges the gap between beige ad light grey”.
- Burnt Sienna - a deep, earthy shade of orange is “reminiscent of a sunset”.
- Rapture Rose - a fun, feminine pink that “captures the vibrancy of fuschia and the softness of pink”.
- Warm Olive - a rich, yellow-green color that looks great paired with any of the other colors (my personal favorite)
- Majolica Blue - a deep teal blue with a bit of mystery and “more vibrancy than the usual navy”.
Executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman had this to say…
“The fall 2009 palette is more unique and thoughtful than the typical autumnal hues of years past. Designers recognize the desire for fundamental basics that speak to current economic conditions, but also understand the need to incorporate vibrant color to grab the consumers’ eyes and entice them to buy.”

While I know there’s plenty of summer left, what do you think of next season’s colors?
