the secret to saving money

Everyone wants to know what’s the secret to saving money…well, I can tell you one thing, if it were easy, everyone would do it. We’d all be wealthy and our country probably wouldn’t be in this “recession.” Well my {budget}fab* friends, the secret to saving money is your mindset. I know it seems cliche, but it’s the 100% truth and most people don’t want to hear the truth.

Dave Ramsey wrote an article in his monthly newsletter titled The Secret to Saving Money, and it talks about how most people have conflicting goals and that’s why they can’t save. You want to save, but you want to buy those latest Aldo shoes or the newest car more. You want to save but you really need a new laptop. Society trains us to feel as though wants are needs and they’re not. Needs are basic everyday things that we need to survive: a roof over our heads, food, clothing, etc. Wants are the newest technology, every fashionable trend (ouch, I know it hurts) and things of this nature. Don’t let those flashy commercials and glossy prints make you feel as though your wants are needs…they’re not.

The bottom line of Dave’s article is that anyone can save, it just has to be a priority to you. Make saving a priority! Today! Not tomorrow, not the next day, not when you get a house, not after you buy your laptop, NOW! Focus your emotions and make saving a priority,

“when you get some healthy anger or fear and then focus that emotion on your personal decisions. Harnessing that emotion will make you move yourself to the top of your creditor list. Ask yourself, “Which bill is the most important? The answer is you!”

So focus on paying yourself first, controlling your emotions, and making saving a priority today. And that my friends is the secret to saving money.
