money munchers

You may think you are saving money by turning off your electronic devices while you are not at home or not using them, but if they are plugged in, you are not only burning energy, but losing money as well.

According to an old Money and Values post  “40% of the electricity that home electronics use is consumed while the products are turned off.”  Appliances such as computers, DVDs, televisions, stereo systems and more are munching energy as well as your money.  So how help your environment while saving some cash?  Unplug your electronics when they are not in use.  Depending on your current situation you can stand to save 6% to 26% on your energy bills.

To plug or to unplug…that is the question.  So what do you say?

Great post! I always try to unplug my electronic devices when I’m not using them and the first month my electricity bill dropped by approximately $30!

Thanks for the comment Dara! I’m happy to see that this has worked for you! No money munching by your appliances!

Great post. My classmate did a study with a watt o meter aroun the house and everything plugged in a socket pulls electricty. Even your unconnected cell phone charger. I started doing this in February. No one believed me until my bill came. It dropped around 29 dollars in the winter. I turn off the switch that my tv and cable box is plugged into., and the surge protector in my office.
