Be a humanitarian and enjoy a cultural experience at one of DC’s most happening spots, Busboys and Poets located on 14th and V NW. Sunday, January 17, 2010 at 7:00pm join fellow humanitarians that desire to make a difference in the Langston Room of Busboys and learn more about what you can do to help the victims of Tuesday’s devastating earthquake. It has also been rumored that a open mic session will follow the information session, so come one come all.
I also visited the Haitian Embassy Website and they have a great list of ways you can help. A friend of mine is collecting the items listed below and dropping them off at the Embassy to help a set of volunteers create survival kits. If you feel this is an endeavor you want to take on, have a look at the list below and visit the Facebook event page for details.
Drop-off is in DC on Sunday, Jan. 17 from 11am to 4pm.
ITEMS BEING COLLECTED:
Baby formula (dry/powder)
Baby wipes
Baby bottles
Diapers
Baby clothes
Toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothpaste)
Hand sanitizer
Vitamins
First aid kits
Over the counter medicines
Socks
Blankets
Mosquito repellent
Flashlights
Batteries
Candles
Flip flops
T-shirts, pants, lightweight jackets
Non perishable food that’s not in cans (seal-packs of tuna or sardines, for example)
Be the change you wish to see the world and I’ll see you out there . . .
