Posted on 04. Mar, 2010 by janelle.
One of my favorite places in Connecticut to go for lunch is Sesame Seed, a charming (and SUPER yummy) Mediterranean restaurant in Danbury, CT. They have the BEST tabouli and the hummus… AMAZING! Everything they serve is fresh and delicious. Not going to be in this area any time soon? Try making your own tabouli salad at home! Here’s a great recipe…

be shoe fabulous!
Posted on 24. Feb, 2010 by janelle.
The Budget Fab team and the fab* lady behind the blog, The Capitol Fashionista, in conjunction with SimplySoles and the DC Fashion Syndicate will be hosting a ShoeFabulous Shoe Drive Event to benefit the Soles4Souls organization and their Haitian Relief efforts.
The people of Haiti are still struggling to obtain the everyday basics that most of us take for granted. A pair of shoes is an essential part of these basics as many individuals have to travel some distance to receive the care and support services offered by relief organizations.
The ShoeFabulous Shoe Drive Event will take place on Saturday, March 13, 2010 from 12 noon to 4 pm at the new SimplySoles store located at The Shops at Georgetown Park, 3222 M Street, NW, 2nd Level, Washington DC. Bring your gently worn flat shoes and sneakers (please, no flip-flops) in exchange for a 15% discount on a new pair of shoes at SimplySoles (limit one coupon per person). All shoes donated will be packaged and sent to Soles4Souls as a contribution to their ongoing Haitian Relief Effort. So join us and “Be ShoeFabulous!”

screwtop: a unique wine experience
Posted on 18. Feb, 2010 by dara.
When I first read the Washingtonian’s tweet, “Take a look inside Clarendon’s cutest new wine bar” I was immediately intrigued. A cute…wine bar…this sounds fantastic. After reading the entire article I am anxiously awaiting my first opportunity to visit Screwtop.
The owner, Wendy Buckley, quit a six-figure job to open this unique spot which boasts a diner and store where customers can dine then purchase wine, meat, and cheese. Buckley used her Texas roots to develop the menu herself.
Perhaps the most unique feature about Screwtop is the Wine and Cheese Club. Members receive two bottles of wine and their choice of chocolate, cheese, or charcuterie each month in addition to regular parties and classes. What a perfect gift for the wine lover in your life!!
For more information on Screwtop, including pictures and the 411 on Buckley’s personal touches to an encyclopedia of wine, check out the full article on Washingtonian.
I cannot wait to check this spot out!

what’s going on craig!?
Posted on 16. Feb, 2010 by racine.
Craigslist that is. I absolutely love Craigslist because you can find just about anything on there. However, I must say my favorite thing to search for are tickets to events. You can find tickets to football games, basketball games, concerts, plays, lectures, you name it! And the best part about these tickets is that they are usually at a budget friendly price! You can paint the town red for a fraction of the cost.
My most recent entertainment purchase from Craigslist consists of lower level tickets to an upcoming Washington Wizards game…below face value! I’ll be able to cheer on my team and purchase something from the concessions stand with the money I saved! Do any of you have a great Craigslist purchase you want to tell us about? Leave a comment below.

get fit at home
Posted on 15. Feb, 2010 by dara.
It’s all too easy to become bored with your “new” gym routine or to become stagnant with your workout plans. Instead of giving up all together, try to introduce some new routines or activities into your daily life.
I have found circuit routines to be very challenging and rewarding. They don’t take long and you can typically do them from the comfort of your own home. Try introducing a circuit routine in the midst of your favorite television show or turn to a music channel and get going. I love this circuit workout by trainer Jillian Michaels and still haven’t perfected it from start to finish. Jillian is one tough trainer, so this one will surely keep your heart rate up and your muscles moving even from your living room.
Another option is to check out the On Demand fitness options from your local cable provider. A lot of the routines and videos are free and you can get them on demand from the comfort of your own home on your own time.
The Wii also has great fitness options that can help you get fit on your own time and in your own way.
It’s not easy to develop a regular fitness routine or to build a habit of attending the gym but the benefits in the long run are tremendous. What other ways do you work your fitness fix into your busy lifestyle?
